Why We Curate Natural Handcrafted Bags, Wallets, Accessories from Tiradia cork

Our Natural collection features garments made from minimally processed, nature-based materials. Prioritizing comfort, breathability, and eco-conscious sourcing, these pieces honor the purity of what the Earth provides.

At WONENA, we curate Tiradia Cork for the depth behind its primary material. Cork is not simply a leather substitute here; it connects the products to Portuguese landscapes, specialized harvesting knowledge, local craftsmanship, and a family history in the cork industry dating back to the 1920s.

Tiradia uses cork harvested from the bark of Portuguese cork oak trees without cutting down the trees, allowing the bark to regenerate between harvests. Cork is renewable, durable, water-resistant, and biodegradable as a raw natural material.

A Women Owned Brand

From Portugal

Tiradia was co-founded by Joana and Amanda after meeting while working at a Seattle startup. Joana grew up in Portugal in a family whose cork business began in the 1920s, when her great-grandparents Maria and Manuel Rocha produced corks for Port wine bottles in Santa Maria de Lamas. Amanda’s path came through animal advocacy and increasingly conscious consumption.

Why is cork used as an alternative to leather?

Cork develops a soft, flexible surface while remaining lightweight, water-resistant, and durable. Because it comes from tree bark rather than animal hide, Tiradia uses it to create vegan accessories with many of the functional qualities expected from leather goods.

Are cork trees cut down to make Tiradia products?

No. Cork is harvested by manually removing the outer bark of mature cork oak trees. The trees remain alive and regenerate their bark, allowing harvesting to occur again approximately every nine years.
