Why is cork used as an alternative to leather?

Cork develops a soft, flexible surface while remaining lightweight, water-resistant, and durable. Because it comes from tree bark rather than animal hide, Tiradia uses it to create vegan accessories with many of the functional qualities expected from leather goods.

Are cork trees cut down to make Tiradia products?

No. Cork is harvested by manually removing the outer bark of mature cork oak trees. The trees remain alive and regenerate their bark, allowing harvesting to occur again approximately every nine years.
